Lester Starr, 88, of Mary D, died on Friday, February 14, 2025, at his residence. He was the husband of the late Lille Anne (Stephens) Starr to whom he was married to for 58 years at the time of her death in 2023.Born in Tamaqua, Lester was the son of the late Charles and Verna (Stapleton) Starr. He attended Blythe Township schools and worked for Lehigh Coal & Navigation as a coal miner and heavy machine operator at the Greenwood Breaker. Known for his need to always be doing something, he never sat still and enjoyed fishing and model trains.
Lester is survived by his two sons, Thomas Parsons and his companion Barb Stemmler of Mary D and Michael Starr, also of Mary D; two daughters, Dawn Lucas of Mary D, and Lesa Gooding and her husband James of Chester Springs, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Alison, Jessica, Clarence, Cassandra, William, Ember, Elexus, Amanda, and David; great-grandchildren, Trent, Layne, and Jovie; a brother, Raymond “Pete” Starr and his wife Alice of Berwick; a sister, Susie Dabravalskie of Scranton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Charles, John “Jackie,” and Gene; and three sisters, Juanita, Susan “Cookie,” and Betty.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua with Pastor Stefan Dinu officiating. Call Saturday, March 8, from 10 – 11 AM at the funeral home.
Memorial donations in Lester’s name may be made to the Mary D Fire Company, PO BOX 376, Mary D, PA 17952-0376.
Arrangements are being handled by the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Tamaqua.
Dorothy Ellen Adamcik, age 100, of Bethlehem, passed away Monday, February 17, 2025. She was the wife of the late Carl E. Adamcik for 73 years before his death in 2017. Born in Middleport, PA on February 17, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Curvey) Dodds. She was an active member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Bethlehem, where she was a Eucharistic Minister and sang in the choir. Dorothy graduated from Blyth Township High School and St. Luke’s School of Nursing. She worked as a nurse at St. Luke’s for many years.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughters Angela Petrie and husband Brian, and Carolyn Adamcik; grandchildren Stefan Adamcik, Peter Sanchez (Allison), and Lian Bell (Chris); five great-grandchildren Benjamin Sanchez, Evan Adamcik, Owen Adamcik, Dresden Leitgeb, and Cooper Sanchez; a brother Ronald Dodds, and a brother-in-law Bernard Kertavage. She was predeceased by her daughter Penny Lou Dorward, a granddaughter Alexandra Leitgeb. siblings Elizabeth Delker (Charlie), Walter Dodds (Theresa), Mary Antol (John), and Helen Kertavage.
There will be a visitation at 10:00 AM on Friday, February 21, in St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 450 E. Washington Avenue, Bethlehem, PA 18017, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Pearson Funeral Home, Bethlehem, is honored to be handling Dorothy’s arrangements.
