McAdoo Borough, St. Clair Borough, and Blythe Township to Benefit from Nearly $575,000 in Funding.
Rep. Dane Watro (R-Luzerne/Schuylkill) and Sen. Dave Argall (R-29) have announced the approval of nearly $250,000 in state funding for park improvement projects in McAdoo Borough. These grants were secured through the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA), which were made available via the Department of Community and Economic Development’s Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program (GTRP).
Breakdown of the Grants:
McAdoo Borough: Awarded $149,590 to convert existing tennis courts at Veterans Memorial Park into two new pickleball courts, addressing the growing popularity of the sport and enhancing recreational options for residents.
“I supported the funding for the park improvements because these projects will provide lasting benefits to our communities, offering recreational opportunities for all ages and enhancing the quality of life for residents,” said Rep. Watro.
Sen. Argall echoed this sentiment, stating, “I’m grateful this highly competitive state funding will provide new opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors. Our communities are healthier and stronger when we have quality parks and trails for all to enjoy.”
In addition to these grants, Rep. Tim Twardzik (R-Schuylkill) and Sen. Argall also announced funding for two Schuylkill County communities:
St. Clair Borough: Awarded $64,175 to develop a youth basketball court at the Third Street Recreation Complex. This court will be specifically designed for children in fourth grade and under, featuring lower rims and a smaller court size to create a safe and suitable environment for younger players.
Blythe Township: Secured $160,000 for extensive renovations to Kaska Park. Planned improvements include installing a new ADA-accessible entrance, new playground equipment with a wood carpet safety surface, and fencing. Additionally, the existing basketball and tennis courts will be rehabilitated with resurfacing, restriping, and new equipment. The tennis court will be seal-coated and restriped to provide a refreshed playing surface.
“This funding will enhance recreational opportunities for families throughout our community,” said Rep. Twardzik. “The new youth basketball court in St. Clair will offer younger children a safe space to play and develop essential skills, while the upgrades to Kaska Park will improve facilities for all, supporting healthy, active lifestyles.”
The Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program is supported by the Marcellus Legacy Fund, established by Act 13 of 2012, to distribute natural gas drilling impact fees. The CFA, an independent agency of the Commonwealth, oversees the fiduciary responsibility of funding programs and investments aimed at promoting Pennsylvania’s economic growth.
