After serving as Mayor of Tamaqua for the past seven years, Nathan Gerace has announced that he will not seek a third term.
In a message to the community, Gerace reflected on his time in office, expressing gratitude for the trust placed in him by the residents who elected him at just 19 years old in 2018 and re-elected him for a second term.
“As I begin my eighth year as your Mayor, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey it has been to serve this community that I love so deeply,” Gerace wrote. “I remain immensely grateful for the trust you placed in me not once, but twice, by re-electing me to this position.”
During his tenure, Gerace says he prioritized community policing, crime reduction, and destigmatizing addiction. Under his leadership, Tamaqua became one of the first police departments to carry Narcan, enabling officers to save lives and provide second chances to those struggling with addiction. He also worked to strengthen ties between the police and local schools, fostering a safe and supportive environment for students.
Beyond law enforcement, Gerace played a significant role in ensuring Tamaqua was well-represented in the U.S. Census, serving as chair of the Complete Count Committee. His efforts helped secure necessary funding for the borough. Additionally, he chaired the borough’s pension boards, working with a volunteer team to make strategic financial decisions to benefit Tamaqua’s employees.
A key initiative during his time in office was supporting economic development through the City Revitalization Improvement Zone (CRIZ), which aimed to bring new business opportunities to the borough and enhance the quality of life for residents.
Gerace acknowledged the support of his family throughout his tenure, thanking his parents, siblings, and grandparents for their unwavering encouragement. He also credited his faith, stating, “Above all, God has blessed me abundantly and led me on this journey in public office. All praise and glory to Him.”
As he prepares to step away from public office, Gerace expressed deep appreciation for the residents of Tamaqua. “It has been the greatest honor of my life to work on behalf of our community,” he said. “As this chapter comes to a close, I look forward to continuing to support Tamaqua in other ways and watching our borough thrive in the years ahead.”
