The fire was reported at 4:45 p.m. at 409 Malones Road, where Butler Township Police arrived first and confirmed a working fire at the rear of a garage/barn.
When firefighters arrived, the rear of the structure was fully engulfed, with flames spreading into nearby brush.
Emergency crews from Englewood, Lavelle, Gordon, Ashland, Frackville, Shenandoah, and
Girardville responded, along with a tanker and Kulpmont's Rapid Intervention Team (RIT).
The fire was brought under control within an hour, but the structure sustained heavy damage. The cause of the fire remains undetermined as of this report.
