Hazleton Man Arrested After Pursuit from Shenandoah to Mahanoy City on Stolen Dirt Bike

A pursuit ended in the arrest of a Hazleton man after he attempted to flee from law enforcement on a stolen dirt bike in Shenandoah.

According to Shenandoah Borough Police, on Monday, March 24th, 2025, Officer Mark Hysock attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Erickson Manuel Martian Diaz, 23, of Hazleton. However, Diaz failed to comply and led police on a chase that ended in Mahanoy City.

Further investigation revealed that the dirt bike Diaz was operating had been reported stolen from Plainfield, Connecticut. Upon taking Diaz into custody, officers found two controlled substances in his possession. Authorities also discovered that Diaz had an active bench warrant for failure to appear in Luzerne County and was driving with a suspended license.

Following his arrest, Diaz was committed to Schuylkill County Prison on a $100,000 straight cash bail set by on-call Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli.

Diaz now faces multiple charges, including:

  • Fleeing and Eluding (F3)
  • Receiving Stolen Property (F3)
  • Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle (M2)
  • Two Counts of Prohibited Acts (M)
  • Operation on Streets and Highways (S)
  • Reckless Driving (S)
  • Careless Driving (S)
  • Driving While Operating Privilege is Suspended or Revoked (S)
  • Driving Without a License (S)
  • Driving at an Unsafe Speed (S)
Diaz is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker on April 3rd, 2025.
