Interstate 81 southbound is closed near Mahanoy City early Monday morning due to a motor vehicle accident.
The crash occurred just after 6:00am, near mile marker 131 near the Mahanoy City interchange and is reported to involve 5 vehicles. Dispatch reported there was also a pedestrian struck during the incident.
Emergency personnel from Ryan Township, Frackville, and Mahanoy City are at the scene.
As of 6:20am, the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 are being shutdown with traffic being diverted off Exit 131 A, the exit to Mahanoy City.
