A Pottsville man is facing charges for assaulting his mother during a domestic incident.
According to Pottsville Police, on Monday, March 17th, 2025, around 4:45pm, units were dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of North 9th St. for a domestic in progress.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with a 66-year-old victim who stated she got into a verbal argument with her son Joseph Rodriguez, age 43.
The victim stated the argument was over Rodriguez not paying bills or helping around the house. Rodriguez then began to destroy things around the house. The verbal argument and destruction of the residence escalated into a physical altercation.
Rodriguez struck the victim in the face with a closed fist in a violent manner causing her to fall to the floor. The victim had pain and redness to her left cheek as a result of the assault but refused medical treatment on scene.
Through further investigation of the incident, Rodriguez admitted to striking the victim and was taken into custody without further incident.
Rodriguez was taken before on call Magisterial District Judge Andrew Serina for his preliminary arraignment and set bail at $10,000 Unsecured.
Rodriguez was charged with one count of Simple Assault and one count of Harassment.
