Edward S. Lyba, Ed. D., 79, of Hometown, died on Friday, March 28, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Louise (Chromiak) Lyba, with whom he celebrated 55 years of marriage this past August.Born in Palmerton, Edward was a son of the late Stephen and Elizabeth (Stickler) Lyba. His extensive educational credentials include graduating from Tamaqua Area High School, Class of 1964, where he was a member of the 1963 championship football team. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Mansfield University in 1968, where he also played football; a Master of Science Degree from Alfred University in 1972; and a Doctorate of Educational Administration from Temple University in 1989. In addition, he held numerous certifications and educational accomplishments.
Edward’s career in education and administration began as a secondary school teacher, football coach, and basketball coach at Wellsville Central High School, Wellsville, NY, and Emmaus High School, Emmaus, PA. His career continued with positions as the Supervisor of Pupil Services/Curriculum and the Director of Career & Technical Education at Schuylkill Intermediate Unit, Marlin; the Assistant to Superintendent/Director of Career and Technical Education at Hazleton Area School District; Adjunct Professor at Temple University; and the Executive Director of the Greater Hazleton Partners in Education.
Ed was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed many trips with good friends and hunting buddies to Mexico, Wyoming, Canada, Alaska, and, most recently, Africa. However, the happiest times of his life were spent at “The Farm” in Clamtown, enjoying the outdoors with his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Louise, his high school sweetheart, with whom he enjoyed taking long walks, cheering on the Phillies and Eagles, yearly trips to Cape May, and spending time with their grandchildren. He is also survived by two daughters, Jennifer Kinder and her husband Ray of West Penn Township, and Amy Argenio and her husband Vincent of West Pittston; four grandchildren, of whom he was enormously proud, Raymond E. Kinder, Grace Kinder, Luca Argenio, and Matteo Argenio; a sister, Donna Beltz of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother-in-law, Thomas Beltz.
Services will be held at 8 PM on Wednesday, April 2, at the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home. Interment in Sky-View Memorial Park, Tamaqua, will be held at a later date.

Shirley A. Kostek, 82, of the Minersville Area, passed away peacefully Saturday morning at the Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest.
Born in Great Falls, Montana, she was a daughter of the late Floyd and Joyce Haun Carlson..
Shirley was educated in the Great Falls High School. She was a custodian for over 30 years in the Minersville School District. She was a member of the former St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Minersville and worked all of the Church’s Polish days as well as volunteering for other Church functions. She was a member of St. Matthew’s Church of Holy Family Parish where she continued her volunteer work. She also was a volunteer with local Fire Companies with their fundraisers as well as the local gun clubs in particular Muddy Creek Gun Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Leonard in 1994, and a brother Ronald Carlson..
Surviving is a son Kevin Kostek and his wife Rhonda, Forestville; daughter Karen Harley and her fiancée James Pellish, Jonestown; 3 grandchildren, Craig Kostek, Austyn Harley and Collyn Harley, a great grandchild Bella Kostek; a sister Betty Kilen and a brother Donald Carlson both of Hibbey, Mn; nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 AM from the Donald J. Butler Funeral Home, 328 Sunbury St., Minersville. Rev. Leo J. Maletz will officiate. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 PM and on Thursday Morning from 8AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Pa.

Harold E. Mundy, Jr. age 84, recently of Wyomissing, PA and formerly of Brockport, NY, passed away Saturday, March 29th, 2025 at the Reading Hospital.
Born in Somerville NJ, he was the son of the late Harold E. and Mildred Mundy.
Harold was a graduate of Hunterdon County High School and received his bachelor's degree from Lafayette College and his master's degree from NYU, both in mechanical engineering. He was employed as an aerospace engineer at Eastman Kodak for most of his working life.
Harold pursued a number of interests over his life, including amateur radio, photography, bicycling, hunting, fishing, and traveling. Following his retirement, he worked as a volunteer for a number of organizations including the ARC of Rochester and the Brockport Child Care Center. He also served as the treasurer for the Brockport Fire District and was a member of the Zoning Board for the Town of Clarkson, NY.
Harold is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carolyn Ann (DeRosa) Mundy; daughters Kristin Ebling and her husband Keith of Schuylkill Haven and Cynthia Mundy of Cambridge, MA; and twin grandsons, Lucas and Nathaniel.
A religious service will be held at the Robert A. Evans Jr. Funeral Home, Port Carbon at 10AM on Thursday, April 3rd, with Msgr. Edward Zemanik officiating.
Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Thursday morning from 8:30-10 AM at the Funeral Home.
Interment will be held in the St. Ambrose Cemetery in Cressona.
