The Open House is an opportunity for prospective students, current students, parents, industry partners and post-secondary colleges to come together to experience all that career and technical education has to offer. The theme for this year’s event is “Your future starts here,” to highlight the vast array of opportunities available to STC Alumni. According to Director Shannon Brennan, 46% of STC graduates enter industry, 44% go on to attend post-secondary or trade programs for advanced training, 6% enter the military.
At the South Campus of Schuylkill Technology Center, visitors can expect to tour the Plumbing, Welding, Carpentry, Residential Industrial Electricity Program, Precision Machine Trades, Auto Collision, Culinary, Computer Information Systems, Marketing & Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Supply Chain & Warehouse Distribution and Cosmetology Programs. The school will have hands-on activities in each program area available for prospective students to get a better sense of the type of training they will receive. Visitors at the South Campus may tour the newly rebranded Supply Chain & Warehouse Distribution Program, formerly known as Logistics. This program teaches students the critical tasks of picking, packing, forklift operation, and inventory management.
At the North Campus of Schuylkill Technology Center, visitors can expect to tour the Diesel, Automotive Technology, Outdoor Power Technology, Masonry, Carpentry, Electro-Mechanical Technology, Health Careers, Emerging Health Professionals, Health Careers, Culinary, and Early Childhood Care and Education Programs. STC will also showcase the new Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning Program which opened in January. The STC Adult Education Program Staff will also be on-site during this event to meet with prospective adult learners, seeking training in CDL, Automotive Technology, Medical Assisting and Practical Nursing. Medical Assisting Students will be offering FREE blood pressure screenings.
At the STC Annex at IU29, visitors may tour the new Food Service Occupation Program and meet Instructor, Tom Wood. This program operates a commercial kitchen where students gain hands-on experience needed for competitive employment in an entry level position in the food industry. This program includes additional support necessary to foster success for each individual educational plan.
The event is free and open to the public. A FireTV will be raffled off to prospective students who bring their invitation post-card. The STC Culinary Programs will have food for sale in all buildings.
