Tamaqua School District on Lockdown for Threat

The Tamaqua School District was put on lockdown on Tuesday for a reported threat Tuesday afternoon.

According to a notification that was sent to parents of the district around 1:30pm:

"This afternoon we received a disturbing call threatening the safety of our students at our secondary campus.  We immediately followed protocols contacting law enforcement and securing our building to protect our students and staff.  Areas in and around our facilities were searched and monitored.  We are in restricted movement currently and will remain until all clear.

We have and will continue to work with law enforcement to investigate the situation and will provide updates as soon as possible".

As of 2:00pm, law enforcement was still outside the school and a State Police helicopter was circling the area.

No details of the incident have been released by law enforcement, and we will post more information as it becomes available.
