A vehicle fire was swiftly contained Tuesday morning near Sweet Pizza on South Lehigh Avenue, thanks to the quick actions of the driver and bystanders.
According to Frackville Police, officers and the Frackville Fire Department responded to the scene at approximately 9:44 a.m. on March 25, 2025, after receiving reports of a vehicle fire at 232 S. Lehigh Ave.
The investigation revealed that Thomas Shirey, 73, of Frackville, was driving his white 1999 Honda Passport south on Lehigh Avenue when he noticed smoke coming from under the hood. Shirey immediately pulled over near Sweet Pizza and discovered a small fire in the engine compartment. Acting quickly, Shirey and several bystanders managed to extinguish the flames before they could spread beyond the engine area.
No injuries were reported in the incident. Firefighters from the Goodwill Hose Company and Englewood assisted police at the scene.
