$5,000 Reward Offered in Schuylkill County Cold Case Homicide Investigation

The Pennsylvania State Police are renewing efforts to solve a more than two-decade-old homicide case and are now offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest or resolution.

On May 23, 2003, the body of 38-year-old Caryn J. Fortino, a Philadelphia-area resident, was discovered in a wooded area off Interstate 81 in Delano Township, Schuylkill County. Investigators determined that Fortino died by asphyxiation due to strangulation. The case has remained unsolved since.

Fortino was last in contact with her family in February 2003, roughly three months before her body was found. Despite ongoing investigative efforts by the Pennsylvania State Police, Troop L, Frackville Criminal Investigation Unit, the case has yet to be closed.

Authorities are urging anyone with information, no matter how minor it may seem, to come forward. Tips can be reported to PSP Reading at 610-378-4454 or anonymously through PSP Tips at 1-800-4PA-TIPS (1-800-472-8477) or online at www.p3tips.com/tipform.aspx?ID=107.
