Pottsville Woman Arrested After Breaking Into Home

A Pottsville woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly breaking into a home in the early morning hours of Monday, April 14, according to city police.

At approximately 1:55 a.m., Pottsville police were dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of North 7th Street for a report of a breaking and entering. The caller stated that a female had been found inside the home.

According to police, the victim reported he was watching television when he heard a noise from another part of the house. Upon investigating, he discovered a woman standing inside his son’s dark bedroom. The woman, later identified as Joan Blevins, 40, of Pottsville, was instructed to leave the home. The homeowner followed her outside and remained with her until officers arrived.

As part of the investigation, police were directed to the 700 block of West Race Street, where they located Blevins and took her into custody.

Further inspection of the residence revealed the latch on the storm door had been forcibly removed from the doorframe. Blevins reportedly gained access to the home through the now-unsecured back door.

Officers noted that Blevins appeared paranoid, was making incoherent statements, and later admitted to ingesting methamphetamine. A search of her person uncovered a small clear resealable baggie containing drug residue.

The victim told authorities he did not know Blevins and that she did not have permission to be inside his home.

Blevins was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge David Placko and charged with criminal trespass, loitering and prowling at night, possession of drug paraphernalia, and public drunkenness. Bail was set at $25,000. She was remanded to Schuylkill County Prison.
