Maria Elena Gutierrez
, 96, of Mahanoy City, PA, passed away Saturday, March 29th, at Lehigh Valley East Norwegian, Pottsville.

Maria was born in New San Salvador (Santa Tecla), El Salvador on September 20, 1928, a daughter of the late Felicita Gutierrez and Salvador Brizuela.

She was a member of Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish Mahanoy City.

She was a Nurse and loved to run and was very much into swimming and horseback riding, cross stitching and keeping her hands busy making dresses and baking.

She was wife of the late Fernando Duran.

Maria is survived by two daughters, Rita Vasquez, of Ardmore PA; Maria Williams, of Mahanoy City, three sons Roberto Gutierrez, of Calif.; Americo Duran, of El Salvador and César Duran, of Australia; a sister, Carmen Gutierrez, of Costa Rica.

She is also survived by 11 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by Brothers Raul, Carlos, Ernesto, Mario, and Sisters Dolores Gutierrez, Lyla Miller.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Mahanoy City, PA, at 11 AM on Saturday, April 5th, with Rev. Kevin P. Gallagher officiating.

Friends and family may call Saturday 9 to 11 AM at Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish.

Interment will be private at convenience of the Family.

James H. Houser Sr.
, 81, of Brown Lane, Ashland, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2025, at the Lebanon Valley Medical Center, Cedar Crest, Allentown. Born in Fountain Springs, August 28, 1943, he was the son of the late John and Carrie (Gilbert) Houser. Jim attended Butler Township Schools before his career working in coal. He was present during the igniting of the Centralia Mine Fire, later working for the Tri State Envelope Company, Ashland, and then working as a roofer with his brother in law, Jim Fetterolf. Jim went back to Tri State Envelope, working there until his retirement in November of 2009. Jim, was a member Christ’s United Lutheran Church, Airport Road, Gordon. Preceding him in death was his wife of 52 years, Mary Fetterman, passing in 2016, Grandchildren, Seth in 2009, AJ and Alison in 2021, also a Brother in Law, Robert May Sr., and Sister in Law, Jane Fetterolf.

Daughter: Tara Houser, Ashland

Brother: Jack Houser, Ashland

Granddaughter: Katelyn Houser

Grandson: James Houser III and his wife Chelsea

Relatives and friends are invited to a Celebration of Jim’s Life, Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 10:30 AM, in Christ’s United Lutheran Church, 437 Airport Road, Ashland, PA 17921. Officiating will be Rev. Brian Beissel, pastor. Interment will follow in Christ Church Cemetery, Fountain Springs. A viewing will be held Friday, 4 PM to 6 PM in the church, and Saturday, 9:30 AM to funeral service time. The family requests memorials be made to Christ’s United Lutheran Church. Paul Yablonsky
, 91, a resident of Shenandoah Heights, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Monday, March 31, 2025.

Paul was born in Shenandoah on December 16, 1933, a son of the late Joseph and Stella (Tacelosky) Yablonsky.

He worked for and was retired as the general manager at the former Pine Grove Homes. His career in the modular industry fostered his love of carpentry and building things. He was a member of the Divine Mercy Church in Shenandoah, and a former member of the St. Casimir's Church, where he was very active. He was a member of the Shenandoah Heights Fire Company and was an outdoors man who loved to hunt and fish, as well as spend time on his land in the Roaring Creek Preserve.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores (Chernesky) Yablonsky, his son, Paul Yablonsky and daughter in law Nancy; his siblings, Francis, George, Irene Schreppel, Helen Savitsky, Bertha Yablonsky, Joseph, Albert, Leonard and Charles.

He is survived by his grandchildren, Brandon, Michael and Tyler, great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Emmett, and by two sisters, Mildred Chiemolowsski of NY and Marie Kakalecik of NJ. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at the Divine Mercy Church, West Cherry Street, Shenandoah on Friday, April 4th, 2025 at 10 AM. A Viewing will be held on Friday morning from 8:30 AM until 9:45 at the Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 South Jardin Street, Shenandoah prior to mass.

Paul will be laid to rest alongside his wife Dolores at St.Casimir's Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights, immediately following the mass.

Irene A. Capone
, 96, of Mahanoy City, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 31st with her family by her side.

Born August 9, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Anna (Kasperan) Burke.

Irene was a member of St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish in Mahanoy City. She was a 1947 graduate of Mahanoy City High School. She worked as a homemaker for most of her life. After World War II, she worked at George’s Ice Cream Parlor, where she met the love of her life, Gino Capone. Irene was an avid fan of the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Philadelphia Eagles.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband- Eugene “Gino” Capone in 2008, her son- Eugene “Gino” Capone in 1983, and her brother- Edward Burke.

Irene is survived by her 3 children- Edward Capone and his wife Maureen of Barnesville, MaryAnn Hruniuk and her husband John of Mahanoy City, and Monica Capone and her husband Henry Blume of Mahanoy City. She is also survived by her sister, Rita Burke Valanty. She also leaves behind her 11 grandchildren- Marisa Jadosh wife of Frank, Angela Heller wife of Kyle, Monique McCarthy, Edward Capone Jr., Renee Hruniuk, Mario Capone, Eugene Capone husband of Sofia, Christopher Capone husband of Abigail, Heidi Hruniuk Dower wife of Tom, Anthony Capone husband of Jennifer, and John Ross Hruniuk. She also leaves behind her 15 great-grandchildren- Oceana, Madison, Skyann, Dallis, Lilianna, Nicholas, Gianna, Nico, Gemma, Riley, Kinsley, Everly, Dominic, Carlo, and Lucas; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at 10am in St. Teresa of Calcutta Church in Mahanoy City and will be officiated by Msgr. William F. Glosser. Visitation will be held from 8 to 10am in the church. The burial will immediately follow Mass in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Mahanoy City.

The James P. Haughney Funeral Home, with the assistance of the Oravitz Home for Funerals Inc, are entrusted with the arrangements.
