Anna Jean (Hughes) “Jean” Dower
, 81 of Ashland, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 with her devoted son Mark at her side. Born in Locust Mountain Hospital, Shenandoah Heights on October 18, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Frances (Zkosky) Hughes. Prior to her retirement, she was last employed by Ashland Shirt Company where she worked for many years as a machine operator and quality control inspector. When she was not working, Jean enjoyed caring for her home, gardening, craft making, watching TV, and cheering on North Schuylkill football. Above all Jean enjoyed time spent with her family. Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents were: four brothers, Joseph, Edward, Bernard and James Hughes; four sisters, Mary Mulroy, Francis Mack, Cathrine “Kit” Donovan and Geraldine “Gerri” Flynn.

Surviving are her three sons: Joseph and wife Lisa Dower; Michael and wife Lisa Dower; and, Mark and wife Amy Dower; six grandchildren: Nicholas, Christopher, Jessica, Michael, Connor, and Gavin; five great-grandchildren: Sadie, Cambria, Emerson, Leo, and Kai. And, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at 11:00 AM at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1115 Walnut St., Ashland. Family and friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at church. Interment will be at Annunciation Cemetery, Shenandoah. Winifred J. "Alex" Alexander, 73, of Auburn, passed away Sunday, April 13th, at St. Luke's Hospital, Bethlehem.

Born in Bakersfield, CA on June 30, 1951, he was a son of the late Acel Woodrow and Vernell (Carroll) Alexander.

Married 37 years, he was the devoted husband of Robin E. (Kull) Alexander.

Alex earned his Bachelor’s Degree from East Texas College. He proudly served in the U.S. Army for 20 years, retiring as First Sergeant. Prior to his active-duty career, he also served in Vietnam—an experience that deeply shaped his life and values.

Alex was self-employed for 10 years as the owner/operator of Alex’s Janitorial Service. He also worked as a Senior Counselor for CONCERN in Lehighton, and as a CNA at Hamburg State Hospital, retiring in 2012.

He was a member of Schuylkill Masonic Lodge #138 in Orwigsburg and a life member of Staller-Luckenbill Post #3975 Auburn VFW.

In addition to his parents, Alex is preceded in death by three brothers and one sister: Francis, Acel, Doran, and Roy Alexander.

He is survived by his wife Robin; two sons, Ronnie A. Alexander of Breinigsville, PA, and Jay lee Alexander and wife Heather of Raleigh, NC; his daughter, Vernell Daniels and husband Ryan of Schuylkill Haven; and two grandchildren, Tristan Alexander of Raleigh, NC, and River Daniels of Schuylkill Haven. Alex is also survived by two sisters, Euvonne Terman of Cove, AR, and Myren Alexander of Bakersfield, CA; his brother, David Alexander and wife Ina of Springdale, AR, and his sisters-in-law: Rachel Alexander, wife of Acel, Springfield, AR, and Beverly-Gray Alexander, wife of Doran, Beckville, TX.

A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, April 18th at First United Church of Christ, Schuylkill Haven. A viewing will be held at the church from 10 AM until the time of service.

Interment with military honors will be held Monday, April 21st at 9 AM at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

Ferne Estella Dietrich of Hegins, born December 28, 1932, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, April 4, 2025.

Ferne was a loving mother and grandmother, and a longtime member and volunteer at St. Paul's U.C.C. She had a keen interest in the lives of her family, and was a consistent source of encouragement by prayer and self-sacrifice.

She was preceded in death by her husband Daniel Dietrich Sr.; mother Catherine Klouser; father Albert Klouser; brothers Elwood and James Klouser; sisters Elsie Lohr and Jeannette Morgan.

She is survived by sons Lynn (Joyce) Dietrich, Forrest (Kathy) Dietrich, Daniel (Rebecca) Dietrich Jr., Edwin (Andrea) Dietrich, Mark (Diane) Dietrich, and daughter Amy (Russ) Ney, 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. with a Celebration of Life Memorial service at 11 a.m. on Monday April 21, 2025 at St. Paul's U.C.C. Sacramento, PA, with Rev. Raymond Holland III officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul's cemetery.

Kim Margaret Kotrochos
, 71, of Minersville passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 15th at The Gardens at York Terrace.

She was born February 23, 1954, a daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret (Mitchell) Kotrochos

. Kim was a 1972 graduate of Minersville Area High School and attended Kutztown University.

She was employed by the Hershey Company until her retirement in 2022.

An avid New York Jets fan, she enjoyed astronomy and putzing around in her garden, and spending time with her pets.

Kim also enjoyed talking about the ‘good old days’, Candyland, The Other Side, Mario’s, Jake’s & Sparky’s, all staples of the Minersville community.

Kim was preceded in death by her parents and her Brother-In-Law, Timothy Jenkins. She is survived by her sister Karen, of Schuylkill Haven and her partner, Rex Riley of Raystown Lake.

Per Kim’s request all services are private. In lieu of flowers Karen asks that donations are made in Kim’s name to an animal charity of your choice.

Interment Schuylkill Memorial Park.
