A Shenandoah man was charged after a door-to-door campaign stop escalated into a physical altercation, borough police said.
On March 26, 2025, officers responded to a disturbance in the 500 block of Furnace Street. The homeowner reported that Robert Shumski, 76, arrived at his residence soliciting votes for the upcoming election. According to the report, the homeowner repeatedly asked Shumski to leave, but Shumski refused and instead began arguing, demanding to speak with another person inside the home.
As the homeowner attempted to remove Shumski from the porch, police say Shumski punched the homeowner in the left side of the face. Authorities were then called to the scene, and Shumski was later charged with Defiant Criminal Trespass and Harassment.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled before Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker on May 1st, 2025.
Records from the Schuylkill County Election Bureau indicate that Shumski is not listed as a candidate on the ballot for the Shenandoah Borough Council in the upcoming primary election.
