Avenues Foundation Announces New Board President

The Avenues Foundation Board of Directors recently elected John Powers, Jr. as the Board President.

Powers, CEO of Ashland Technologies, replaces Darren March of March Lutz Wealth Advisors.

March has been the President of the Foundation Board since its inception in 2008 and he remains active on the board.

According to March, “I have had the privilege of working closely with John, professionally and personally, in various capacities, including work for this organization, and I am confident that his passion for our mission, coupled with his proven track record of effective leadership will contribute significantly to the continued success of the Avenues Foundation.”

Powers has been involved with Avenues events throughout the last 15 plus years. He is also a past member of the Avenues board. He lives in Cressona with his wife and three children who also enjoy Avenues events. They especially enjoy Scarecrow making at Lessie’s Greenhouse Garden & Gift Shop Fall Festival! Lessie’s, one of several retail locations, is among Avenues’ many programs for individuals with disabilities.

Powers stated, “Avenues mission is so critical to our entire region. What they do for people in need and how they really bring people together is vital. The Foundation offers the community an opportunity to come together through events and fundraisers to provide additional funds to keep the organization thriving.”

The Avenues Foundation was created to ensure that needed funds would be available for Avenues to continue to meet its mission today and into the future. Its goal is to provide quality services that improve the everyday lives of the individuals Avenues serves. Powers added, “The Foundation continues to look for support in the form of donations, sponsorships and volunteerism.”

“We are all helping each other and having fun with fundraising events,” he added. Each year the Avenues Foundation holds the annual Yuengling Beer Pairing Dinner at Mountain Valley Golf Course, the Duck Race in the Walmart SuperCenter St. Clair parking lot and the golf tournament which alternates between Mountain Valley and Hidden Valley Golf Courses.

Powers looks to continue with the fantastic work that Darren has done as President of the Avenues Foundation.

Avenues, a nonprofit organization, was founded in 1952 as United Cerebral Palsy. For more information, visit avenuesofpa.org, call (570) 622-7920 ext. 111 or like them on Facebook.
