Orwigsburg Police Investigating Police Impersonator

In the afternoon hours of Monday, July 21, 2014 the victim was pulled over in the 600 block of Center Turnpike (SR0061) in the Borough of Orwigsburg by what was described as a  black Chevrolet Impala sedan with a red and blue light in the dash.  A white male wearing blue jeans, a t-shirt and some type of emblem (possibly a badge) on his shirt exited the Impala, approached the victim's vehicle and ordered the victim out of the car with his hands in the air.  The victim was escorted back towards the suspect's vehicle at which time the suspect patted the victim down and demanded to see the victim's driver's license.  Upon display of the license, the suspect used a mobile radio mic from within his vehicle to "call in" the license information.  After doing so, the suspect returned the license to the victim and advised him that he was not the person he was looking for and departed the scene.  This incident is under investigation and anyone with information pertaining to this or similar incidents are urged to contact the Orwigsburg Police Department at (570) 628-3792
In the event you or someone you know is being pulled over by a suspicious unmarked vehicle displaying emergency lights and/or sirens, make sure to do so in a safe, well lit and highly visible area such as along a busy roadway,  in a shopping center parking lot, or at a gas station  if any are within close proximity.  If you still do not feel comfortable with the situation, call 9-1-1 and verify with the 9-1-1 operator whether or not the traffic stop is validated.
